RECEPTIONIST REALITY

I have been working as a receptionist for a couple of months in a busy hotel in Dublin, and now that I am no longer the newbie, the reality of it all has started to set in. Lets look at some of the realities of working in a role like this!!

1. You are going to need coffee, and lots of it. Although your working day is the average 8 hours, you have no routine. Your eating and sleeping pattern is all over the place and some days you may feel like your going to keel over. You may not have time for social events, but when you do make it to them, you will get absolutely hammered just to make up for all the other drunken times that you've missed. #passmethevodka

2. You are a punching bag!! People are tired and cranky and they will take everything
out on you. I had a lady complain to me that she didn't like the decor in the room. I mean, she didn't just mention it, she went mad at me because she was not fond of the wallpaper. I am sorry people, but that is not my problem, I did not decorate this hotel.

3. If you don't drive, then you will more than likely be late for every early shift that you are given on the weekend. Public transport does not cater for us freaks that have to work on a Saturday and Sunday. No one else is in at this time, so there is no need to mention your lateness to anybody annnnnd you will still get paid. #winning
4. You have to deal with so many people that you begin to lose all recognition of what they actually look like. Someone may have checked in 2 seconds ago and they come back up to you 2 seconds later and you say 'are you here to check in'. Memory loss comes with the job!! This won't happen with the regulars that you have to deal with on a weekly/daily basis, but man, I forget all of their names every single time!! I usually just say 'Hi Joe' and hope for the best.

5. Your days off will become 'going for lunch' days, because who the hell wants to go
out and get hammered with their receptionist friend on a Monday night after their weekend filled with shots and cocktails!!
Guys, there is absolutely no need to worry about your receptionists mates, who currently have no life and no time for social activities. We are still alive and kicking and we still love you all dearly. Just because we don't see you, and we seem to be much more dedicated to our jobs than our families, doesn't mean that we don't care!!
Lots of Love&Laughs,
Tammy
